Why Leaping Goat?

Where it all Began…

When Dave and Lisa first moved to Arthurs Seat in 2003 they got two baby goats for their children to hand rear.

Unfortunately, the baby goats came from an ill-reputed regional farm. Consequently, the babies quickly became ill. Dave and Lisa tried everything to restore their health but the vet said there was nothing more they could do except possibly explore giving them fresh goat milk. They told Dave and Lisa of a lovely new goat dairy in the area.

Damien and Bess Noxon from Main Ridge Dairy kindly supplied them with goat milk straight from the dairy. It was often warm when they collected it! Damien and Bess most generously provided a 2-litre bottle for a gold coin. This saved Coco and Jeddy thanks to the kindness of Damien and Bess.

Once the goats were well and it was time to wean them, Lisa visited Damien for what she thought was the last time. She mentioned how much she loved goats and how she’d love to work with them but would never create her own dairy or grow them for meat. Damien suggested she help him as he was building up his herd and had no need for the boys, with the view to creating his cheese-making business.

From then on, for the next 10+ years, Lisa and her children hand-reared about 10 gorgeous little kids every winter, finding homes for them as beloved pets that made fantastic lawnmowers and the most affectionate companions.

Leaping Goat Olive Oil's name comes from a truly unique story.

On a sunny afternoon over a decade ago, in the very early days of Dave and Lisa’s journey of olive oil production, they were pondering possible names for their grove in Arthurs Seat. Struggling to find a name of interest, their inspiration was provided by a friend’s dog who suddenly decided to chase the goats. They fled in fright, ran around the back of the shed, up onto the roof and then leapt off, miraculously landing feet first on the ground two metres below.

"Leaping Goat" it was, and the picture of goats Coco and Jeddy, leaping over an olive tree was painted by the same friend’s mother that very week.

Thus was born Leaping Goat and the rest is history.
